Hadith on Evil & Good Innovations.

Evil innovation is sinful
---------------------------
Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 168 Narrated byBilal ibn Harith al-Muzani Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He who revived a Sunnah out of
my Sunan, which has died after me, for him is the reward like the reward of those who acted upon it, without any decrease in that reward. He who
introduced some evil innovation which Allah and His Messenger did not approve has (a burden of sin upon him) like the sins of one who acted
according to it, without their sins being mitigated thereby in the least.
Transmitted by Tirmidhi.

Cursed by Allah is the one who innovates or gives shelter to an innovator.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 4515 Narrated byAli ibn AbuTalib
Qays ibn Abbad and Ashtar went to Ali and said to him: Did the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) give you any instruction about anything for which
he did not give any instruction to the people in general? He said: No, except what is contained in this document of mine. Musaddad said: He then
took out a document. Ahmad said: A document from the sheath of his sword. It contained: The lives of all Muslims are equal; they are one hand against
others; the lowliest of them can guarantee their protection. Beware, a Muslim must not be killed for an infidel, nor must one who has been given a
covenant be killed while his covenant holds. If anyone introduces an innovation, he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an
innovation or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion), he is cursed by Allah, by His angels, and by all the people.
Musaddad said: Ibn AbuUrubah's version has: He took out a document.

*Note: A muslim must not be killed for an infidel in qisas but compensation should be given.

Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation
-------------------------------------------------------
Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 4590 Narrated byIrbad ibn Sariyah
AbdurRahman ibn Amr as-Sulami and Hujr ibn Hujr said: We came to Irbad ibn Sariyah who was among those about whom the following verse was revealed:
"Nor (is there blame) on those who come to thee to be provided with mounts, and when thou saidst: "I can find no mounts for you." We greeted him and
said: We have come to see you to give healing and obtain benefit from you. Al-Irbad said: One day the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in
prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid. A man said: Apostle of Allah! It
seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us? He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if
it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and that of the rightly-guided
caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.

Dont make innovation (in religion)
------------------------------------
Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 187 Narrated byGhudayf ibn al-Harith ath-Thumali
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Never did a people make an innovation (in religion) there was withdrawn from them the equal measure of
Sunnah. Adhering to Sunnah is better than making innovations.
Transmitted by Ahmad.

Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 188 Narrated byHassan ibn Atiyyah
No one ever made an innovation in their religion but Allah withdrew the equal portion from their Sunnah and He would not restore it to them till the
Day of Resurrection.
Transmitted by Darimi.

Qunut in every prayer is not required.
----------------------------------------
Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 1292 Narrated byAbuMalik al-Ashja'i
I said: Father, you had the opportunity to observe prayer behind Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him), AbuBakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, in al-Kufah
for about five years. Did they observe Qunut? He said, O my son it is a sort of bid'ah (innovation).
Transmitted by Tirmidhi, Nasa'i and Ibn Majah.

Dont invite people to prayer after adhan because adhan is itself calling to prayer[invitation]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 538 Narrated byAbdullah ibn Umar
Mujahid reported: I was in the company of Ibn Umar. A person invited the people for the noon or afternoon prayer (after the adhan had been called).
He said: Go out with us (from this mosque) because this is an innovation (in religion).

The most evil affairs are their innovation
--------------------------------------------
Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 1885 Narrated byJabir ibn Abdullah
When Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose, and his anger increased so that he was like one
giving a warning against the enemy and saying: "The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say: "The last Hour and
I have been sent like these two," and he would join his forefinger and middle finger. He would continue: "The best speech is that embodied in the
Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. The most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is an error."
He would add: "I am dearer to a Muslim than even his self. He who has left behind property, that is for his family, and he who dies in debt or leaves
children (in helplessness), the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me."

Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 3166 Narrated byAbuHurayrah
Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: Medina is a sacred territory, so he who made any innovation in it, or gave protection to an innovator, there
is upon him the curse of Allah, that of the angels and that of all the people. There would not be accepted on the Day of Resurrection either
obligatory acts or supererogatory acts from him.

Dont make innovations after prophet.
----------------------------------------
Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 5686 Narrated byUmm Salamah
I used to hear from people making a mention of the Cistern, but I did not hear about it from Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him). One day while a
girl was combing me I heard Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) say:" O people," I said to that girl: Keep away from me. She said: He (the Prophet)
has addressed the men only and he has not invited the attention of the women. I said: I am amongst the people also (and have thus every right to
listen to the things pertaining to religion). Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: I shall be your harbinger on the Cistern; therefore, be
cautious lest one of you should come (to me) and may be driven away like a stray camel. I would ask the reasons, and it would be said to me: You don't
know what innovations they made after you. And I would then also say: Be away.

Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed him who cuts a lote-tree.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 5221 Narrated byHassan ibn Ibrahim
I asked Hisham ibn Urwah about the cutting of a lote-tree when he was leaning against the house of Urwah. He said: Do you not see these doors and
leaves? These were made of the lote-tree of Urwah which Urwah used to cut from his hand? He said: There is no harm in it. Humayd's version adds: You
have brought an innovation, O Iraqi! He said: The innovation is from you. I heard someone say at Mecca: The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed
him who cuts a lote-tree. He then mentioned the rest of the tradition to the same effect.

Excellent Bid'a (i.e. innovation in religion) is permitted.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 3.227 Narrated byAbu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever prayed at night the whole month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his
previous sins will be forgiven." Ibn Shihab (a sub-narrator) said, "Allah's Apostle died and the people continued observing that (i.e. Nawafil offered
individually, not in congregation), and it remained as it was during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr and in the early days of 'Umar's Caliphate." 'Abdur
Rahman bin 'Abdul Qari said, "I went out in the company of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people praying
in different groups. A man praying alone or a man praying with a little group behind him. So, 'Umar said, 'In my opinion I would better collect
these (people) under the leadership of one qari (reciter) (i.e. let them pray in congregation!)'. So, he made up his mind to congregate them behind
Ubai bin Ka'b. Then on another night I went again in his company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, 'Umar remarked, 'What an
excellent Bid'a (i.e. innovation in religion) this is; but the prayer which they do not perform, but sleep at its time is better than the one they are
offering.' He meant the prayer in the last part of the night. (In those days) people used to pray in the early part of the night."

Raising hands to the breast/shoulders is permited.
-------------------------------------------------------
Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 2255 Narrated byAbdullah ibn Umar
Ibn Umar used to say, "Your raising of your hands is an innovation. Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) did no more than this," meaning that he raised
them to his breast.
Ahmad transmitted it.
